i have just purchased swan 5.1 for the front c 3 center chanel r 3 for mids and 2.1 for the rear what reciever to power this with for killer 7.1 system
Follow Ups:
I just bought a Denon 3802 and absolutly love it. The price is great for what you get. And if you need more amp power, just add an outboard amp through the pre-outs.
Joe's got some good receivers listed. For the money I don't think any receiver can touch the Denon 3801.The Denon 5800 is 170 watts x 7 and it sounds very, very good with music as well as movies. You might want to check out B & K AVR307 also - I've not heard it, but I've heard it sounds fantastic. I just got the Yamaha RXV1, which is a great machine, but it can be bettered by the Denon 5800 and the B & K, how much better is for you to decide. I got the Yammy for just over $2K so it was a better buy for me and it still sounds great. But, I'd probably get the Denon 5800 if I was in your shoes and liked the remote that comes with it. That is if you really want a receiver. The separates route will certainly give you better sound but it's an area I'm unfamiliar with.
Lexicon DC-1, DC-2, MC-1.or wait a few monthes for the new
MC-12 (ballanced or unballanced,
your choice)then you'll need to buy an amp.
You will now have a KILLER system.
They have one of the best DSP modes
,if not the best, called LOGIC 7 for
two sides and two backs.
also have 2 hrc subs hsu reserch vtf-2

well to be honest i was trying to keep the whole project speakers dvd tv and reciver under 5000.00 but after i went to hear systems and speakers that opinion was shot to hel! so that is why i bought the swans good stuff i looked at tv and have not been impressed with the models that run around 2000.00 so at this time my buget is what ever it takes i only want to do this once and do it right besides paid off house 3 months ago
Paid off the house? I've got a long way to go. As far as receivers go, check into the Denon 3801, Denon 5800, Onkyo 989 and Onkyo Integra 9.1 surround receivers. All have at least Dolby Pro-Logic, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1. The Denon 3801/5800 and Onkyo 989 have Dolby Digital EX (matrix), DTS-ES (matrix) and DTS-ES (discrete) capability. The Integra version can be upgraded to DTS-ES (matrix and discrete). The Onkyo 989 also has Dolby Pro-Logic II capability. The Integra 9.1 and Denon 5800 can be upgraded for DPL II capability. As far as power, I believe the 3800 and 989 give about 105/110 watts to each channel. The 5800 and 9.1 give about 130 watts to each channel. Pricing, from what I have seen, is as follows: Denon 5800 ($2800), Denon 3801 (under $800), Onkyo 989 ($2450), Integra 9.1 ($?). I would go to the websites to find out which one is right for you (or if you even like these models or brands!). Keep in mind that almost all of these are upgradable (I don't think the 3801 is, but I could be wrong). By the way, DTS has announced that coming this fall we will have 24/96 surround capability for certain DVD movies with DTS soundtracks. You might want to wait a month or two to see what receivers will handle the full potential of this format (although the movies will be backwards compatible with today's processors). Let me know if you have more questions (email?).
The 989 is also upgradable to DPL II. It's the same unit as the 9.1 except the 9.1 has 2 assignable 12v triggers.
