My Pioneer DV-414 DVD Player smashes widescreen program onto fullscreen image:Older 4:3 films display correctly. On newer films (with greater than 4:3 aspect ratio), actors look like aliens (with narrow heads). I haven’t tried the “fullscreen” (pan and scan) side of my DVD’s (and don’t want to).
This is normally correctable (I did it once) though the menu on the player (the one you get with no disc in the machine).
My problem is that the top level (first screen) of the menu is limited to only 2 options instead of the usual 5 - which makes the aspect control unavailable.
Unplugging the power cord does not correct this - it was unplugged for several days when I moved last month.
Can anyone help solve this problem? I would like the aliens to come back to earth.
Regards,
Jim Susky

If I understand you correctly, try this: Put a DVD in the 414 and then hit the stop button. Now hit menu and you should (if the 414 is like my DV-05) get the full menu screen whereby you can get into the aspect options.
