I would really like a DVD with top notch decoders, I find the decoders in my toshiba DVD just don't do it. At least on the SUB. So whats out there that has good onboard decoders? Thanks
oh yeah, and is this DTS 24/96 a big deal? I really don't know.
Follow Ups:
I find the attitude of some "audiophiles" very snobbish about video & HT and imply that those who are interested in video are prepared to accept inferior audio. Certainyl not so for this nutter!I already own a Meridian 861 processor and it has performer miracles on 16 bit sound for CDs, LDs & DVDs. So, I am contemplating depriving my offspring of some (more) inheritance by investing later in the year in a Meridian 800 DVD/DVD-A player. This is about to hit the markets and will be one of the first players to use an outboard processor for DVD-A. One irritation is that my current 861 processor is likely to need a major upgrade to accommodate this -> even less to be left to the kids, but who says they need it anyhow!!!
Interesting times

I think that both can be improved on DVDs. Picture could be improved on TV as well. But I find that most people think everything is great right now. I have even had some say that DVDs beat 35mm movies. At first I would tell them they were full of s***. Now I am kinder and suggest that they get the catarcts removed from their eyes, before they go blind ;-).
John C:I'm in whole hearted agreement with you.
I wasn't around during the list shift from mono to stereo, but understand that was a very similar situation.
I'm all for multi-channel music if it improves my listening experience, and so long as during a track, the instruments are fixed, it's a pretty engaging experience.
For me, the sparser instrumentation in each speaker allows me to experience aspects of the recording with more detail.
Oh well. I usually get raked over the coals for this point of view... and could care less.
