The htm2 does match seemlessly w/ the 805's as it is basically an 805 on its side. Currently (and hopefully for a long time to come), I'm driving my 804's with a classe 201 (really enjoy that pairing), and I'm driving the htm2 and surrounds with a classe cav75 (bridged to 3 channels.) my pre/pro is a classe ssp25, also using rega planet & sony dvp7700.Anyway, the htm1 is basically an 803 on its side, the only difference being that the 803's are vented and the htm1 is a sealed design. The htm2 does not blend as seemlessly as I had hoped with the 804's- the only thing I can figure is that the FST midrange has a large bearing on this.
Lee, I know we've exchanged emails about this before, but i post here on the off-chance that someone might be able to provide more insight. as you know i've got the N802s and plan on building an HT system around them over the next few yrs. Obviously the 802s aren't perfectly seemless with the htm1 or the htm2 because different drivers and housing are used.my question is, since there is no chance of true seamlessness, does it really matter which center i choose to go with? the tweeter is the same in both centers. i just hate to spend that extra grand on a center if the end result will not make such a huge difference. opinions welcome.
The HTM-2 does not have the FST midrange driver. The HTM-1 has the same FST midrange driver as the N802. I would think that your best bet would be on the HTM-1. Besides, after all that money spent on N802s, what another 1K over the price of the HTM-2?
good point Mike. I have the opportunity to get the htm2 used for about 10% off with the option of trading it in for the htm1 any time during the coming year. It's kind of a no-brainer. Get the htm2, decide I need the htm1, trade it in.I demoed the htm2 with the 802s over the weekend and it sounded great to me. But with more sensitivity 90 dB vs 88 and better bass response, not to mention the bigger cabinet with an additional woofer, it seems obvious that the htm1 is the better speaker. and you're right, with all the $$ i've invested in this system already, i suppose i'm obligated to get the better center.
but first i'll get the smaller one and try to convince myself it's what i need. ;-)
