I was looking around for a cheap CD player for a living room system, purely background listening. I saw two models of DVD players on sale in Amazaon for US$99. I have a TV in the den and wondered if I could hit two birds with one stone with either one of these units. Daewoo DS2000N or the Oritron DVD600. Would these last more than a year?:-)
Follow Ups:
I know someone whose girl got an oritron from her parents...anyway, he was using it this summer. the damn thing wouldn't highlight selections on any of the menus (you had to guess which selection was highlighted!). it did all sorts of crazy things. he said that one time he was watching a movie, and come closed captioning came up that was from another movie he watched a week before! what a hunk of crap!!!stay away from oritron. Agree with the guy who recommended pioneer. JVC's are also good. I love my pioneer though. it is the 5-disc for around 3 bills. great player, worth every penny.
good luck,

Don't get one. Spend $20-30 more and get the lowest model Pioneer. I bought a DV-333 new on E-bay for $93 and it is well worth it.
I made the mistake of letting a friend of mine borrow a DVD of mine (i believe it was Dinosaur from Disney).... Anyway, the DVD player would not play it at all (common to cheaper models) and in fact then decided not eject the DVD at all!!... well, my friend showed up to my door step and said: Here is you DVD back!... if you can get it out of this %#$@$ DVD player, you can have your disk back. Oh, and please feel free to shoot the DVD player with your shotgun afterwards.I managed to get the DVD out and in the process looked at the inerts... wow, what a piece of Junk! i did not shoot it, but i ran over it with my truck.... That felt good!
The player was a ORITRON!!!
You get what you pay for... i think he paid 79.00 for his P.O.S.
stay away from JVC also, only mildly better than oritron!!
I almost bought a Oritron DVD/CD/MP3 player for $79 at Target. I am glad I searched the internet for more info 1st. and saw your review. Thanks for saving me $79.
Try searching here: AVS Forum . You'll probably find more information.-- Greg
