What is the best Home theater receiver for the following setup,Fronts - B&W DM 603 S2,
Rears - B&W DM 302
Center - B&W CC 6currently using Denon AVR600
Mony to spend $1000 +- 200
Considering ROTEL, NAD, MARANTZ
Is there anything better than this in this range ? (e.g
Combination of surround processor & power amp?)Thanks in advance,
Milind
I think BM makes a good point on Denon. My real question is what are you missing?Where do you want to go?
If you think you might want to go separate downline, then you might find yourself upgrading again. It'd be tough to get there on your budget, but if you did it in steps or look at some used gear you can get there.
You could add a very good 2 channel power amp now and have money left over if it's power you lack. A Belles 150A or McCormack DNA .05 is in that range or much less used.
To go the processor route now is hard. Sherwood or Sony come to mind in the $800-1,200 range, but that leaves no money for amplification. But you might find a processor plus amp used that you can afford. The plus is that you can sell it later for what you paid if you want to upgrade further downline.
Hi Rod,Thanks a lot, I am thinking for future updates, Say If I want more
power or want to replace pre amp what will be the best way to go ?
If I buy 2 channel power amp and stay with current Denon and use
it as pre-amp whether will it be a good setup for HT as power amp will
be 2 channel?Thanks,
Milind
PS : I am not ruling out possibilities of Denon, but by chossing
Denon for HT, I don't want to on the music side.
It'd be a multi-step approach. I assume the Denon has pre-amp in/outs for the main speakers. You just unplug the jumper and go from the pre-amp out to the new 2 channel amp in.You would only be using the Denon as a pre-amp for music. HT would work as always but you'd have to readjust the front for a new amp.
If you don't want to use the Denon at all for music, you could add a 2 channel pre-amp and only use the Denon when you do HT. This would still use the new amp for the main speakers. You just move the pre-amp out on the Denon from the amp to a Tape or Aux input on the new 2 channel pre-amp. It helps to have a unity gain feature but you can just set the system at a known level for HT.
If you wanted to replace the Denon completely later, you'd have to add a processor and a 3 channel amp.
I'm curious why you don't list the Denon 3300 as a possible upgrade? I have one in my bedroom system & I'm very happy w/the system.I compared it to Marantz, NAD, etc. Denon was my choice for price/performance.
Thanks a lot, I haven't ruled out Denon but as I heard a lot about
NAD, ROTEL and MARANTZ I was thing of getting one, definately
will try Denon as well.Thanks,
Milind
