VideoCD CAN be recorded on plain old CD recorders with the right software. The quality sucks but is convenient compared to VHS
The Japanese love them because they can be viewed on PCs
The link below from Yahoo search result:
Turn your PC into Video Recording Station!
... How simple is VCD Recording? 1 - Capture with CinePlayer DVR. 2 –
“Burn” your VideoCD on a CD-R using NERO CD writer software. ...

EdM,Thanks. This is a new suggestion; others have told me just to burn both VCD's and CD's directly off the computer. Your idea offers the option of getting a high quality CD-recorder to primarily use for audio CD's and doing the video via the PC. I do have a TV card on my PC, so now I just need to figure out how/if I can record shows on VCD format via software programs such as you mention and then burn them into VCD's on the free-standing CD-R.
I use different search engines than yahoo - I will now try that as well - another reason to say thanks.
Only one downer in all this: the http://www.convergent.com.sg/studioVCD.htm
URL doesn't work. I tried the yahoo search and found it myself, and it is correct, yet I can't connect. Nevertheless, you have steered me towards a direction I was unaware of before.BigV
BigV,Just traveled down this road. I recently purchased a digital
camcorder, capture card and software for both editing and burning.
I made my first VCD over the weekend. I've had the stuff for two
weeks now and had to invest alot of time on the web and at the
controls of the camcorders and computer. I made a simple 30 second
VCD of my kid after all this time. Now that I have the process
down, (I hope) things get easier. A site which has been the
most useful thus far is vcdhelp.com. If I can be of any help,
I'm willin'. Maybe we can both learn something.Regards,
Joe T.
Thanks, Joe T. and Iguana ManGood site!
