What is the best available progressive scan DVD player now available regardless of price? What improvements can we expect to see next year in this area? I mean everyone raves about the performance of the Sony 9000 ES and yet it is about to be replaced with a new model offering five channel SACD and possibley improved progressive scan. I am not an expert in electronics. But, I am curious what are the limits of the progressive scan format. Are we talking about improved chips, power supplies and better quality electronic parts or are we looking at some type of significant discovery that will allow us to state that this is now the best progressive scan available? Also, aren't ther limits to improving the format? Are we looking at another Beta vs VHS in the wings? I desperately want to purchase but need some advice. Thanks.
Follow Ups:
No DVD player is "perfect" at this moment.Considerations should be made for:
Camelot Roundtable (excellent Redbook CD performance as well) for about US$3995. For an additional US$995 you can get the Anagram 24bit/192K board. No chroma flaw, Silicon Images chipset for de-interlacing.EAD Theater Vision P (about US$3000) gives you excellent Redbook CD performance sans upsampling, in a package without Chroma flaw utilizing the Silicon Images chipset.
A little further down in price, not necessarily video performance:
Kenwood 5700 5 disc changer at US$1200 is an option. Slow transport, and I haven't heard the DVD-Audio section just yet. I'll have that here soon for a listen. At bargain basement pricing, the Panasonic RP-56 or Philips Q50 are the contenders.
Regards,
Ron,Check out www.hometheaterhifi.com/main.html and head to the shoot-out of progressive scan players, done by the crack staff at the Secrets of HT &HiFidelity. Might surprise you which models are top rated and their cost. You don't have to spend alot to get alot back. Remember, the technology is racing forward so fast, players a mere 12 months old seem, ancient! Anyone spending 10k on the latest DVD player from anyone, should contact me about land I have for sale in the Florida Everglades! Its really not as wet as it used to be!

Krell got a DVD player with Faroudja p-scan chip which may cost up to 10K (you said regardless of price), said to be the best p-scan player on the market now....a friend of mind compare it with the Pioneer AX10 and beat it in all catelogry. 9000ES is NOT high quality in p-scan video quality.
Well, I did say price no object but....other than a $10K Krell, what can I purchase at around $3500 for good progressive scan? Hey, thanks for the response.
