I want to copy a DVD I bought - one of those "music videos" so to speak, really it's a documentary of Bob Marley's Catch a Fire record from 1973.Can you dub DVD to VHS? I use a Sony Play Station 2 as my DVD player, if this helps.
I was wondering if DVD has copy code software built in...
Thanks -
Dave
Follow Ups:
Most, but not all, DVDs have a second generation of Macrovision encoded in their video. This signal causes problems with the video cicuitry in today's VCRs. Usually, when a DVD with this signal is recorded via your VCR, the picture will get bright then dark, look really fuzzy, show color variations or "all of the above". You can't hurt anything by trying, though if you use a VCR from the '80s, you may have better luck. The Macrovision encoding process takes advantage of the "advanced" circuitry of modern ('90s+) VCRs to confuse their recording capabilities. Earlier VCRs aren't as sensitive to the Macrovision signal.
I plugged the outputs of the Playstation to the AV inputs on my Sony VHS, and taped away.It worked perfectly!
No Macrovision effects in the least!
Thanks for the replies!
The Playstation operates pretty good as a DVD player, but it has a very loud fan for cooling, and the noise is annoying.

I CANT EXPLAN IT. BUT VIEWING IN SVIDEO (WHICH IS BETTER QUALITY ANYWAYS.) THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF MACROVISON. I WAS GOING TO BUY AN ADAPTER TO CIRCUMVENT IT...BUT ...WOW....I DONT NEED IT. .....OF CORSE I DIDNOT ACTUALLY TAPE ANYTING YET...BUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH MACRO IS THAT JUST RUNNING IT TO THE VCR WILL ACTIVATE IT. ( TO CONNECT A DVD PLAYER TO A VCR BECAUSE MY TV AT THE TIME HAD NO RCA INPUTS.) THIS IS GREAT...I HAVE A NEW MODEL MARANTZ SVHS...I GUESS THEY DONT CONCIDER SVHS A THREAT...AS NOT MANY OF THE MASSES HAVE IT. BUT I ONLY WANT TO FOR TAPING OFF OF DIRECT TV....BUT NOW I CAN JUST DUB HIGH QUALITY 400 LINE RES(S VIDEO IS MUCH BETTER THAN VHS) DVDS.....COURSE THEY WILL NOT REPLACE MY DVD COLLECTION..BUT FOR MOVIES I DONT WANT TO OWN FOREVER...ITS GREAT.
... not to write your posts in capital letters - in the written language this equals shouting, and tends to annoy potential readers. Please, don't take this the wrong way - consider it "useful information".

Does anyone know why people type in all caps? I can't figure it out. I ask because I constantly see people do this . . and it boggles my mind. It's almost impossible to read - so there must be some explanation for why people think that this is the appropriate way to type. And I'm not trying to bag on anyone who types like this . . I'm just honestly curious whether anyone has tried to figure out and explain this phenomenon of the internet.
