Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap (<$500) HT receiver that sounds good? It will be used in a system with a 27" Sony Wega TV, a Pioneer DV-333 DVD player, and a Mitsubishi VCR. (Speakers TBD later...) The only features that I must have are remote, and S-video/composite video switching. Dolby digital and DTS are required but THX is not. Are there any receivers in that price range that stand above sonically, or are they all equally crappy? I was considering a Pioneer simply to match the DVD but I would try another brand if it is a lot better. This is not the primary system in the house. It will be dedicated to satellite TV and movies, as well as background FM listening during the day. Thanks in advance,

For really cheap second system, check out the low-end JVC. I just bought one for our weekend place from hifi.com. It is acceptable, and adequate for the weekend place.
I agree with SamM, the Outlaw is, IMHO, the best "cheap" receiver out there. I just directed my good friend to buy one, and he is enjoying it so far. I don't think you'd be disappointed.
At the 500.00 mark, no doubt Outlaw Audio.http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/1050.html
