We had an old projection TV. I bought a Sony KV-36XBR450 when it broke. A great Hi Definition TV. I love the TV so much I bought a surround system to go with it.Receiver: Denon 5800
Speakers: Definitive Technology BP3000TL, C/L/R 3000, BPVX/PI can return either of these within the next 30 days. They sound great together to me. I had researched the system for some time but I really got the system because of price.
The Denon was $2500 (list $3800) and the Definitives were $5500 (list $7400). I thought I was getting bargain. An $11200 system for $8000. All are new from a factory dealer.
Is this the best system I could have gotten for the money? If not what would be better?
Follow Ups:
From what I have heard the Def tech's do, they are one of the best HT speakers. The walls will shake for sure when you pop in U-571 in DTS and listen to all the Depth Charges explode. I watched this dvd the other day at a dealer with a Pioneer VSX39tx receiver, a Yamaha DVD player and the BP3000TL's and it was great. You got great prices on the gear and for movies it can not be beat.
If your purpose of the system is for movies then the Def Tech's are ok. For the money you probably could do better, they are not considered high-end. Check out norh.com or av-reality.com for better speakers at a fraction of the price compared to the Def Tech's. Also check out the forums regarding those and other options at:

I'm surprised you don't like the Def Tech's. Long ago I stopped believing what people called High End. The only thing that matters to me, is how a system sounds. I have only read excellent reviews on the receiver and the speakers.I have a low end Sony DVD and a Sony KV-35XBR450 TV. Any DVD will produce a very good picture. But I do plan to purchase an "expensive" progressive scan DVD in the near future. As for the Sony, it is the best picture I have seen. And I will not purchase a 16x9 High Def TV until far more 16x9 format is available. I can't see paying 5 to 10 grand for a TV and then watch a distorted picture.
While some may not call the Denon and Def Tech's "High End", I think the system (speakers and receiver) compares favorably to my old "Very High End" two channel system for much less money.
Old System:
Krell KPS-20i CD player,
Krell KRC-HR preamplifier
Krell FPB-300 power amps
Genesis V speakers,
AudioTruth Dragon speaker cable
AudioTruth Diamond interconnectsBTW, I paid my way through college playing rock bands. This system was my way of staying close to the music I loved. And yes this system does sound awesome.
Where's your DVD player? You need a good progressive scan to go with the Denon and Sony. Try the Panasonic RP-91.By the way I have the Denon 5700 and it's great.
I LOVE my AVR-5700 also. I did go to an external DAC for the audio-end though.
My AVR is a Denon, and I love it.
a Denon AVP 8000 and it sucks...but I'm judging it by high end audio standards. It's fine for video watching.
