Due to the W.A.F. I need to have my h.t. surround speakers the in-wall/built-in style. My concern is sound quality/performance/budget.
Are there decent quality in-wall speakers that can be found in the $250/pair range?
Is it reasonable to place these in the ceiling area behind the viewing/listening area as opposed to in the walls. Performace wise is there any big trade offs between the ceiling vs. wall mounting locations?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
KM
Thanks for the feedback guys.I will really look at building a solid, vibration free cavity for the speakers
to reduce wall vibrations would require ...
... cross-beaming cats
... front baffle board
... lining the entire cavity with a white-glue & sand mixtureOnce done, you can even port the unit.
considering they're rears you may want the point source units from Madisound.
Basically, bass is lacking, the higs are generally beamed to where you are not, and you will need to arrange the room around them, rather than placing speakers for best sound. Any permanantly mounted speakers have drawbacks if good sound is one of your goals. For background or DPL surround use, they are at best, barely adequate.
And yes, there are decent (in class) speakers available for $250. Then again, I cannot see spending a lot on wall speakers anyway.
