a friend just bought a dell laptop with a dvd drive. i am interested in doing the same thing to use as a bridge for ht use before buying a dvd player. does anyone know what kind of quality level the dvd drives in computers are? any specific brand recommendations? will the computer offer the same features, ie ff, reverse, slow, etc, that a dvd player would have? and can a computer be purchased with a digital out feature, like an s-video out, stereo audio out, or digital optical cable out?
my take? there is almost nothing for dvd computer software still!! There are thousands of movie dvds. The obvious is get one for your HT. If you ever really want one for the 'puter get one at that point in time. No need to spend buckets on it either. Just got a rca ex-divx player for $200; it works just dandy.
