Sounds strange, but my bro does not want to get rid of his old carver dolby 2 gear, so he wants a player that has good 2 channel out. Any suggestions? Thanks

Among the considerations, and assuming you mean analog two channel output:Meridian 596
Meridian 800
EAD Theater Vision P
EAD Theater Vision Ultra
Camelot Roundtable
Ayre D-1 (I think that's the model #)Other potential contendors:
Camelot Roundtable with 24/192K board (I haven't heard it yet)
Krell DVD player (I haven't heard it yet)Regards,
I'm using the Sony DVP-9000ES as a two channel DVD player and I'm very happy with the sound. Progressive scan looks terrific and build quality is supeb. CD and SACD sounds good too, considering the price. An after market power cord helps too.
Excellent sonics, built in upsampler but you must have a dac or pre/pro capable of decoding the upsampled signal. Upsamples cd to 24/88.2 and DVD to 24/96. Also exceptional picture quality and build quality. Has large well built female RCAs for analog connections. Burr Brown dacs as well. Separate power supplies for video and audio. This unit consumes 45 watts. Take a look at the typical dvd player which consume about 9 watts and you will have an idea as to the build quality of the power supply.
I've fairly happy with mine. I'm using the 2-channel output, too. The output filter is adjustable. I like the warm setting myself.
Does anybody know which is which regarding the audio filter: Sony's silly manual suggests that the, "Sharp Filter provides a wide frequency range," and "the Slow filter provides warm and smooth sound." Well....if I use the Sharp filter, what is the cutoff frequency? If I use the Slow filter, where does the cutoff begin, and how far does it extend? Thanks!
