I have a problem with my Direct TV satellite dish. (Hughes receiver)
I have had a repeating horizontal line rising on my TV screen, on all inputs.
It's not real obvious, but It's easiest to see during dark scenes.I did some trouble shooting, hooking things up differently, hooking things up one at a time and I have determined it is the satellite.
If I disconnect the cable that runs from the satellite dish to the receiver, the line will go away. I suspected a ground problem, so I went outside, cleaned and rechecked all the grounds and still had the problem.
I disconnected the ground wire from the grounding block where the cable enters the house and the lines went away.
I thought maybe my cable, which is buried, may have deteriorated, so I ran a new cable from the dish to the house. No help, still have the lines.
So it seems I have some kind of ground problem, but I'm at a loss about what to do now.
Follow Ups:
I had a similar problem with my DTV receiver (RCA) and the cable TV lines coming into the house. I don't know if you have an extereior ground from the actual dish happening or not, but if you do, disconnect it and ground your coax line coming in from the dish and cable line through a power bar with dual coax hookups- I did and have never had a problem since with picture OR sound!!
Just my bit,
Dman
Basically you have diagnosed your problem correctly. There is a difference between your satellite ground and the ground at your plug. The easiest way to solve this is to install a ground breaker for satellite frequencies. This will electrically isolate the satellite cable from the satellite receiver. It's basically two small transformers back to back. If it were normal TV signal, the easy way to build one would be to get two 75 ohm to 300 ohm transformers (about $2 each) and wire them together. For satellite frequencies, you are probably going to have to find a specialized ground breaker.
Good Luck... Paul
