I am not familiar with this particular model. However, Pioneer seems to have a good reputation for DVD engineering. Also, I have only good experiences with my Pioneer DV-525 DVD player which I gather would be somewhat similar to the one you mention. (Look out for noisy transport mechanism though - mine has this and it would bother some people, others wouldn't mind for video playback.)Best,
Thom

I have had this player and the 525, in my opinion the Panasonic RP-91 blows them away. The RP56 should also be good. The Panasonic has no chroma bug evident in all the Pioneer (and almost everyone elses models) and it has no annoying whine and the audio quality is far superior. The Panasonic also has better progressive scan which you may want if you have a better tv and can automatically resize picture to fit any tv aspect as well as manually scale the picture up and down. All for $299 (RP56) - $499 (RP91).
Check out audioreview.com and the avsforum.com for many. many, many opninions on these players
***The Panasonic has no chroma bug evident in all the Pioneer (and almost everyone elses models***Funny, in 3.5 years of watching DVD, I've never once seen the chroma bug and I currently own 4 players, none of them Panasonic. I previously owned two others, also not Panasonic. It seems to me that if this bug was as much of a problem as you and others make it out to be, I would have seen it at least ONCE via 100 inch CRT projection, 65, 45, and 40 inch rear projection systems.
First, I merely mentioned it as a fact not "the problem you make it out to be"Second, the bug is very evident on most HIGH RESOLUTION (read NOT RPTVs),that is anything with over 400 lines, tvs in the form of a pinkish cast at certain times.
you knew anything about video, I'd insult you.
