Hello.
I am considering TOSHIBA SD 9200, SONY NS 900V, or PANASONIC RP 91 for using DVD and CD. But I usually listening CDs. SO, please let me your advice for which DVDP for the best cd sound. Thanks in advance.
Follow Ups:
I'm very pleased with the new Sony DVP-NC650V. Dirt cheap very good non-progresive scan image and plays multichannel SACDs as well. Includes its own base management.
Personally, I would opt for a Pioneer Elite DV-37, it received excellent reviews in Stereophile Home Theater and is a great progressive player. Then have a type 2 audio modification done by Dan Wright or Stan Warren. You can purchase the the DV-37 for $570 and the mods cost $250 (I think), for a total of $820.This DVD would rival anything out there in terms of video and audio quality. You can always get the DV-37 and not have the mods done if you like the quality of the audio.
Just my 2 cents.
What type of mods are they? And do they only do them for pioneer DVD players? Thanks
ModWright does modifications on a number of different DVD and SACD players. You can check out their pricing structure at www.modwright.com. Dan has a lot of work on the bench and will be at CES, so don't count on getting something done until late January. You can check out comments and new service introductions at the www. harmonicdiscord.com website as well.I am not a customer yet, but everything I have read and heard from customers have indicated a very high level of satisfaction.
Modwright offers both transport (DAC) and standalone (DVD/CD) modifications. Most current generation SACD or DVD players lack high quality redbook CD playback quality. I am looking for standalone modifications from Modwright, but waiting on the format wars between SACD and DVD-Audio to sort themselves out. Plus, I hate the idea that for multi-channel surround sound you need 5 or 6 sets of interconnects - get real electronics industry!
Personally, I am waiting for a mid-priced (~$400)combo player SACD, progressive DVD, CD (all types) from Sony or Pioneer with high quality video. I figure one or two more years before they get this right. Then I'll get Dan to do some modifications.
Season's greetings.

Thanks Rjones,
happy holidays
I just bought the Toshiba SD9200 after auditioning many DVD players. The 2 channel analog for HDCD is the best I heard. And now that you can get the 9200 for $650 on the net, I think it is unbeatable. The progressive scan picture is also very good.
The California Audio Labs Cl-2500 will give you the best cd sound for the money. It also upsamples both DVD and Cd.
The Ayre DVD/CD player is amazing. Best CD playback I've heard.

But it's not cheap!
That's cool. I have Claase Amp, so believe its dvdp is great. But, it does not progressive scan. Is there anyone who auditioned these four players, SOny NS 900V, PANASONIC RP 91, TOSHIBA SD 9200, or denon 2800?
Thanks
No progressive scan is a definite no-no. I've got it on my "wish list", but I'm not buying in for at least a year. Hopefully, Classe will have upgraded this unit by then, and I'll be able to pick up a 42 inch plasma for <$3K :-)
Might try the comparable Pioneer, have it moded for audio by Stan Warren or Dan Wright.
