RPTV all the way. Plasma can't do true black or beyond black...not yet, at least!

Gary,What's beyond "true black"? ;-)
Seriously, I understand your point, though not expertly made.
If budget weren't an object, I'd go with a ceiling mount FPTV rather than either of the stated alternatives, especially if I could go with a CRT setup.
Regards,
I should have elaborated more.Although I don't understand the technical aspects of this, I do know that many DVDs have information that is beyond black. In fact, test patterns (SMPTE bars) always contain a "beyond black" bar that is used to test a monitor's ability to display this information. Sorry, but I don't know how else to explain this--just don't know enough about it, but I do know what it looks like on my monitor.
Maybe one of the tech gurus here can help explain?
I understand completely. 7.5IRE is black, 0IRE is "beyond black".Plasmas can't do 0IRE very well, and somewhere I once read an explanation of exactly why this is the case.
Regards,
I didn't know about the IRE numbers, thanks for the insight!
