the 750 horizontal lines of resolution is even blatently noticeable upon broastcast signals (about 200 lines). On my LDs (about 400 lines), the additional resolution makes the detail outstanding. It's always better to have a product that exceeds the signal rather than mearly meet the requirement. 1st, if one bought a 400line TV & then bought a 500line DVD player you'd be bummed. 2nd, the signal is usually degraded by such a requirement (e.g.: tweeters that don't exceed 20kHz). Unfortunately, Panasonic exchanges its excellent color integration (i.e.: skin tones) comes at the demise of true black (it's more of a dark charcoal). However, its super-flat screen (not nearly as falt as a Sony Wega, but flatter than the rest of Sony's line) remains to be a modest standard, especially for its price.
If the set cannot produce a black black...all else is worthless...my PHILIPS pro plus 32" and 27" models..produce splendid color saturation, extremely perfect BLACK levels, none of that almost black nonsense.....the prop plus series are the commercial sets from PHILIPS...BNC connection, Digital comb filter, S Video, loop through neat programabilty, a longer 3 prong AC cord....stronger case for mounting on a bracket...SUPERB images...
