    Just speculation:
    Could be that he is waiting for the whole Digital TV thing mature a little more. While I myself don't discourage anyone from buying a DVD player, I have some concerns about a digital format that is inferior to near-term HDTV standards.

    If the man is going to remaster his catalog, he may not want to redo his work for HDTV.

      Are you suggesting he wouldn't get a return on re-mastering? Do you really think he would do the re-mastering personally?

      If he was so concerned about the quality of the product being distributed then none of his films would ever be screened on normal television or on normal video. There must be some other reason.

        From what I've heard Speilberg was one of the directors that was on the DIVX bandwagon (Along with Disney and Lucas). With the death of DIVX we may start to see some of these titles now.
