Does this software work? Quality? I couldn't be the only one receiving e-mails selling this software.. Any specific software to choose or shy away from???
Follow Ups:
MPEG 4 is suppose to be MUCH better compression software for video (almost no loss in quality). One drawback is that you would need to play back the movies on a computer (which you could connect to your HT). Another is that it takes ALOT of computing power to compress a DVD movie (like running overnight). The software is still free. If you are interested, you can read more about it at the link below.

maybe few years later when making a good copy is less time consuming ...thanks
You don't need to actually pay for this stuff. Go to www.cdfreaks.com and look through their how-to articles. Most of the software is free, or you can use free demo versions. You're basically going to be compressing the movie down to fit on one or two 700 meg discs in MPEG2 format. And by compression, I don't mean like mp3 compression, where information is magically restored, I mean compression where a lot of detail and information is permanently destroyed. You'll be creating a video cd.
Let us know how it works for you.
Quality of this kind of copy dosen't sound that promising to me.. So I guess I will pass... thanks. I will just copy my movies in VHS, the old fashion way... thank you all..
I get a lot of VCD's off the net, some are poor quality and some are pretty good. The ones taken directly from DVD in mp2, or divx are still superior to VHS imo.
Lol stick to VHS , hmmm
I've been ripping all DVD's I have been renting since I got my DVD rom , pretty much 2 CD rips only . Depending on the quality of the original DVD transfer at times I have a better and sharper quality image than some poorly transferred DVDs . the picture is pretty impossible to pick on the TV set , if the movie is small enough I even keep AC3 sound try that with VHS. I 100% recommend learning some of the basics start to rip , using only Divx and VBR mp3 sound(or Ogg or whatever u like).Movies posted on the internet are very shit at times IMO.
