I have always used an AV receiver for home theater but am going to seperates, a power amp and preamp/processor. Should I first power up the preamp/processor or the power amp when I turn on the system? Conversely, when powering-down, what should get turned-off first? Thanks in advance.
Follow Ups:
Some components will emit a noise when they are turned on or off that an amplifier will amplify into a thump (or a sharp cracking noise). Ideally, you don't want the amplifier on when you are either turning on or turning off components that are before it in the signal chain. Therefore, for best results, you should turn on the amplifier last and turn off the amplifier first.Todd
Some line conditioners have a delayed turn-on (e.g., Panamax) specically for power amps.
Power Up = processor then amp
Power Down = amp then processor
