My mother lives in Europe and I'd like to buy her a DVD player. I'm guessing half the DVD's she will watch are European and about half from North America. Is there a player out there that can play both zones? Thanks,
JL

arcam dv88 is international but a little more $$ than some.
All the dvd players can be change to code free!!!! In Europe, you can do that every where. Buy a Sony or a Pioneer...
You also need to consider the voltage requirements. Mine says 100-240V, 50-60 Hz on the back but is apparently set internally for the 117V, 60 Hz US standard. This unit can convert PAL to NTSC also, which is why I bought it.Todd
On NTSC? On PAL converted to NTSC? Thanks.
On NTSC, the Sampo player is okay but not as good as my older Pioneer DV-414 DVD player. On PAL to NTSC, it is watchable but quite underwhelming compared to a regular NTSC DVD or laserdisc, at least on the Columbo and Six Million Dollar episodes I've watched so far. Perhaps there are inherent quality compromises in this conversion, or maybe a more expensive conversion process would do a better job--I am not sure.Todd
I am told the Philips Q50 can be formatted to handle any zone from its remote. This bargain player appears to be evolving as a very desirable high end unit. There have been a few bugs with it but they seem to be getting ironed out now. However most players can be rejigged to play multi regions, making the whole exercise one of futility! Do a net search (Google) on this issue if there is another particular player that interests you.
Note that Europe uses PAL so you need to look at a dual system player. Most of them are although maybe not all sold in the States.
