At times an amazingly GREAT actor and one of our favorites.

Even in a mediocre movie, his diligence could reward in unexpected ways.

Three of his films stand out for me - "The Conversation", "The French Connection" and "Unforgiven".

I really enjoyed his role in Birdcage, posted on February 27, 2025 at 12:54:42

Was in Miami a couple of years ago and visited the Carlyle where the club shots were taken.

I liked him in Enemy of the State and Unforgiven.
Too long since I've seen The French Connection, might have to again one day.
And I've heard good things about The Conversation for a while now, it's time.

Quirky thriller --ahead of its time but absorbing Gene was mesmerising in his scenes.

In the '80s, I saw him in a local Bistro at lunch. He looked completely unapproachable. It was like he was in a movie.

He was a great one and won't be remembered enough.

I happened to DVR "Scarecrow" a few weeks ago, and now I'm looking forward to seeing it. Apparently, Hackman cited it as one of his favorite performances.

BTW, in a recent NY Times article, Ben Stiller reported he'd been in awe of Hackman when they worked together on "Tennenbaums." He finally got up the nerve to tell him how much he had been impressed by Hackman in "The Poseidon Adventure." Hackman replied, "Money job," and that was the end of the conversation.
