We were watching the Choice of Arms tonight, a somewhat below average action flick with two good actors (Yves Montand and Gerard Gepardieu) and one gorgeous lady (why, Catherine Deneuve, of course). The action was slow and the plot lazy, so we started to reminisce about other great movies that we have seen long, oh so long ago...One that came to mind (no surprise, given the plot of this one), was the movie that we both loved some thirty years ago. It was about a farmer named Ferrand protecting his turf against the slimy intruders - sort of the original Death Wish, if you will, albeit with more class and subtlety.
Problem is, we only know the translated title, and Jean Gabin's filmography on the imdb.com doesn't have anything with that name. The one with the name Ferrand associated with it (Le Soleil des Voyours) doesn't contain any plot description. So, what is the title of that movie?
And another unforgettable actor - Zbigniev in Popiol I Diament. It also crossed my mind that we have not seen any Wajda's movies in a long time. Which ones of his later works are particualrly notable?
