***Why doesn't that stop every other studio from releasing movies?***How did you get from A to B on this one? Not everyone shares George Lucas's concerns about copy protection so they have no qualms about releasing their titles. Other studios, like Steven Speilberg's Dreamworks, do have the same concerns as Lucas, and are witholding their titles same as Lucas. They can afford to take the long view and maintain their catalog the same way Disney does.
Either way, don't fool yourself - none of the studios ever has the fan's concerns in mind - all they care about is m-o-n-e-y.
***Why doesn't it stop people from copying the *released* laserdisc to DVD?***
Duh - it doesn't stop them, but it does result in a severe loss of quality as you dupe down from disc to tape. Digital cloning results in no loss of quality. That's what Lucas is concerned about.
