***Let me get this straight, Victor. You watched this film before?!Yes, years ago.
***Why did you watch even a part of it for a second time?!
It was on the screen as walked into the room - I believe that was the American Movie Classics, or something rather.
I don't regrett doing this - I picked some things that made my feelings stronger.
***Idiocy? Yes, absolutely. But that's Hollywood, Victor. Don't look to mainstream American cinema for honesty or realism. Ain't gonna happen
I agree in general terms. HOWEVER... it becomes the predominant force if there is no counterbalance. And there is NO counterbalance. If there IS any, please let me know.
I don't care much for most of Hollywood rubbish - but as far as I am concerned, that has right to exist as long as there are buyers. It exists in ANY culture. Problem with OURS is that the counterbalance was destroyed long before the game even started.
I think most of us know how much time the average American student spends on the European WWII. This is disgrace.
***I think you're over-estimating the influence this film had.
I wish you were right. The reality is frightening, however. As you might recall, there have been many "Great War Movies" lists presented here, and I believe the Stalag was on most, if not all, of them.
