Yes, I admit to juvenile viewing tendencies. You can imagine how disgruntled I was after Leonard Maltin trashed Anaconda in his review; and
after I went to see it twice in two weeks at the theater!
And yes, I was immensely pleased after Roger Ebert vindicated the movie
by giving it a 3 1/2 star rating in a longish review, deeming it a destined
cult classic.
The little finicky couch potato pretty much echoed my sentiments: good
special creature effects (yes, at times they seemed strangely animated, but
never hokey, but at other times, starkly realistic); great photography and
musical score; adequate acting for the cast involved, although I thought
that Voight hammed it up great as the villain; the storyline OK; in essence, a fun, rollercoaster, entertaining, scarey, humorous movie. Maybe
not 3 1/2 stars, but I'd give it a solid 3 for the genre. - AH
