"Lair of the White Worm" was typically weird Ken Russell filmmaking. My girlfriend reminded me that this was the first film we saw Hugh Grant in, but I only remembered Catherine Oxenberg in underwear and Amanda Donohoe in very little.
Other horror recommendations:
If you want quirky, rent "The Prophecy" with Christopher Walken.
For astonishing visuals, rent Dario Argento's "Suspiria".
