I just saw Notorious for the 2nd time last night. As soon as I took the tape out, Mission Impossible 2 was on the student movie channel and I was struck by the similarities between these movies. I mean, MI:2 even has the same horse racing scene, for crying out loud. But then for the ends of the movies, the differences between the directors becomes clear. John Woo has Tom Cruise work out the plot by killing the bad guys and blowing stuff up, whereas Hitchcock's Cary Grant outsmarts, outclasses, and plain old humiliates his nemisis. And I had thought MI:2 was a decent action flick before yesterday. Now I think it's a waste of 2 hours and a decent Porshe. Your thoughts?
