Besides the story, by predictable I mean that it relied on some many standard plot elements:-- the old mystic (Scott Glenn)
-- disposable characters that serve no purpose than to get taken out with nifty special effects and death scenes
-- the main character (Chris O'Donnell) has ghosts that haunt him (the circumstances of his father's death) that will play a key role at the end of the film.
....and on and on. My point is that although the effects were good, in terms of a story, characters, etc. there is nothing here that has not been done hundreds of times before.
