Has the highest demanding photographie I have seen in year, every picture is a perfect formed world, it live an die in every each of its frame.
Claire seems to love the male bodys, if she would not be a woman I would accuse her of homosexuality, it there something to accuse, as her legionnaires move along, turning on themselves, I do not have read the Melville book, so it is diffficult in this case, what is what from who...
It has a tragic dimension, of Roman grandeur pared with the Gregorians holy songs of songs.
Is it jalousie? is it hostility, is it the very core of primitivity, the will to destroy someone seemingly as fragile as this born on the marchse young Russian boy.
A very French film, Camus like.
I had wishe a little more profund exploration in the motivs of this tale...But as Marseilles in the background with its church looking upon, nobody is perfect.
