A film that you would have problem to understand if you are not German or lived in this country from 1989 till 1995 at least, or have some knowledge of what happend in this period.
Let me describe this picture...
Berlin DDR ( remember it was communist )
A mother and two children, a boy and a girl, you will learn that the father desert the country for the golden West and his family should follow later, they wonÂ´t..the mother is afraid to.
She hides the letter from her husband to the child.
She work for a better socialism with humor, she belong to the communism establishment.
Just when the soft revolution started that will lead to the fall of the Berlin Wall, she has an heart attack.
She is in coma for ever? so the doctor..but after 9 months she wakes up.
The doctors says she should stay in the hospital as long she lives.
But the son doesnÂ´t wand this option.
He want her home.
But she do not know that ther is no more socialistic state.
Her son bringing her home, cover every thing, buy old product ( no West )
And so for the next months she will believe that every thing is like always..
Till her next heart attack and some more action in between ( Her husband visit her shorltly before she died )
How is this film ?
Relatively well played, you can cry the American way....Nice tragedie/comedy.
But not a great film...
