This baseball fantasy features a non-native Iowan farner (Kevin Costner)who, when he hears a voice from the sky, plows up part of his corn crop to construct a major league baseball field to lure back "Shoeless Joe Jackson" (Ray Liotta) and the rest of the infamous 1919 Chicggo White Sox who were banned from the game for throwing the World Series.Along the way Costner hooks up with James Earl Jones, a disgruntled
former sixties radical writer and, later, a retired doctor (Burt Lancaster) who had played one single major league inning prior to his taking up medicine. An enjoyable film, not as deep as "The Natural". It has grown on me over the years as I had resisted the early hoopla at first.
