In a recent post I mentioned this 1989 Jean-Jaques Arnaud film as a favorite. I hadn't seen it for a while so I dug it out last night and watched it through. It is an extraordianry live action tale of two bears, a cub and an adult male grizzly, in the Canadian Rockies in 19th century British Columbia. Much of the action involves their inter-actions with a couple of hunters intent on their demise. Except for some brief dialog by the humans, this is virually a silent film with gorgeous music and a wonderfully enveloping 5.1 surround sound track. All during the film one is constantly saying, "How did they get that shot?". Beautifully photographed in color. Highly recommended for all ages although it may be a tad too violent for the very young.
