"Marty"

I have the original kinescope of the live action TV play on laserdisc
and also the feature film on DVD. Rod Steiger is the protagonist in the first and Ernest Borgnine plays the role in the film. Both are good. The "dog" actress in the TV version really is homely, much more so than Betsy Blair, who plays the role in the film. Last night I watched the versions back to back and was struck by how much original dialog was retained for the film. For some reason the Marty character is 34 in the TV play and 32 in the film. The film fleshes out some scenes and adds some. The film also is able to use different locations, rather than parts of a set.

Both are successful IMHO.
