La Notte was made shortly after the incredible L'Avventura, and it is far easier to absorb. With stars like Marcello Mastroianni, Jeanne Moreau and Monica Vitti one hardly needs a better invitation, and the movie never lets you down... it is like one two-hour masterstroke. As always is true in such cases, my mind and my eyes were riveted to Monica Vitti (ever since my then girlfriend and now wife introduced me to her)... it is so easy to get obsessed with her... blond of dark... doesn't matter.
No need to spend much time talking about this film - plenty of material about it already, but its atmosphere is every bit as gripping as before and it still draws you in and doesn't look one bit dated.
