Olmi is without any doubt one of the greatest masters of quiet observations. Both Il Posto and I Fidanzati want you to abandon the daily rush and sit quetly, watch the simple people around you and learn to see the beauty in small gestures, sights, quetly spoken words... in humans.
There is much queit beauty in both films, and one should better be prepared to forget about big fast world outside the windows, and get absorbed in thoughts and feelings. Not actions... feelings.
Both films deserve your strongest consideration. It is little wonder that Olmi did not get more recongition in this fast moving world.
If I had to keep just one of these two masterpieces it would probably be the Il Posto... but then this impression just might change tomorrow...
