Finally got to see the American Version, and what a travesty! I liked the Japanese version, but Hollywood has done its evil once again in this remake. One of the main problem is the role of Susan Sarandon. In the Japanese version, the wife is a timid home-maker who has the internalize the suffering in that quirky Japanese way.
In this version, she is a strong career-woman, and her role/time has grown way too much over the original IMO. I can't believe the Hollywood "Rose scene," and I can't believe the final scene where the wife actually comes with Richard Gere.
Boooo!
