Since you asked below, here's my take on a few of the other Russian films you suggested:Russian Ark: this one is brilliant in so many ways. An interesting and creative way to pay homage to the Hermitage. I was just as captivated by the "making of" documentary as the actual piece. My favorite scene was the stairway at the end...
Andrei Rublev: I think I will be digesting this for a while---the imagery was almost overwhelming at times. I will probably try to watch it again after I've had time to think about it. The bell-making scene was by far my favorite, almost a film in itself...
Tycoon: a tough little mobster film, with all the right twists and plenty of Russian politics. And who wouldn't enjoy watching Mariya Mironova?
"Man With A Movie Camera" is next on the list...
