Seen at home and on my friend's impressive home theater setup.A strange film, I find either people like it a lot or they hate it. Fairly good acting all around, with a few exceptions, but not bad from a pretty inexperienced group.
The movie has a couple basic plots that run linearly. First is Napoleon and his new friend, Pedro, trying to find dates for the dance. The second major plot is Pedro's run for class president. Both plotlines seem weak, but make sense as major events in a high school setting. A lot of events seem random, but many fold nicely back into the plot later.
I thought it was a very funny movie. Not everyone's cup of tea to be sure. If you're a fan of Wes Anderson (Rushmore, Royal Tennenbaums) you'll probably love this movie. It has the same laid back, subtly quirky style of humor as Anderson's films. It's refreshing to see a well made, basically inoffensive movie with little crude humor.
Rating: 80/100 Comedy (where 100 is the perfect)
