worth watching film from Spike Lee.
Not for one moment does this film ring true: Denzel's character seems almost like a genteel pimp rather than a head of detectives. His solo decision making, so off the cuff, is so naive it makes one wonder if Spike ever bothered to do any basic research into hostage situations.
Clive Owens proves he has the range of... an Alan Ladd. Botox would have zero impact on his ability to portray emotional nuance--- or any emotion at all.
Jodie Foster: why any woman twenty to thirty pounds overweight would wear skin tight skirts is a mystery. The biggest butt I've seen in a lead film in many a moon (har har).
All the performances are trite with that non-professional ad lib quality which vastly is overrated.
Still... the film works as entertainment, keeping one guessing until the end. Unlike many directors, Lee plays by the rules, placing the keys to the mystery in plain sight.
