Just saw this last night. Wow, don't know how I missed it for so long but really a great film. Wonderfully photographed story of the Tang gang in 1930's Shanghai as seem through the eyes of a young boy. Gong Li as the mistress of the gang's boss positively illuminated the screen- bitchy as she may be- the viewer as well as the boy who is assigned as her servant begins to feel symphathy for her towards the end. Added bonus is one of the better soundtracks.
