and, though it is a very good film, it isn't great. The writing, story, and direction are too pedestrian and predictable.
A boy and several of his friends engage in a death-defying game, regularly. He isn't a boy from an impoverished, ghetto background, we are shown, so... why the suicidal impulse?
This is a brutal story quietly told which makes it all the more shocking.
See it, by all means, just don't expect greatness.
