The 1977 film "A Special Day" is set in the late thirties, during Hitler's visit to Italy, and covers great territory - there are politics, family life, psychological insight and human tragedies all in a well presented package.
To say the performances are good would be a trivial addition, so if you have not seen it - definitely get it, it is available from the Netflix.
On the scale of 10 this one is perhaps 8 1/2, which is incredibly good, in other words.
