First off, one must genuflect to the powerful, unforgettable performance of the lead actor: iconic American superstars DeNiro, Pacino, and Nicholson, who long ago left this type of role behind, now have a brother. And one that could kick their collective asses.
In several rather incredible set pieces, he performs his own fight scenes which surpass any I can recall: one takes place in one extended no-cut scene in a corridor.
So... this actor actually is a combination of a superb actor AND an amazing action star. Whew!
The movie is is a crazy roller-coaster ride, part "Memento," part "For a Few Dollars More," a little of "Chinatown," and large part pure originality.
With this film, which was lauded at Cannes in 2003, director Park shows that large budgets are not necessary to fine entertainment in the overblown Hollywood-style.
Be prepared for equal parts style and substance and you'll be amazed.
