"Il Bacio di Tosca"... for the love of music and opera

Tosca's Kiss... Seldom one encounters a documentary so absorbing, so sympathetic of subjects... so direct and yet so delicate in its touch.

Casa Verdi is the retirement home for Italian opera singers and musicians, and the film spends 90 minutes with them as they relive their moments of glory and pride, and... as they sing.

How quickly one forgets about their frail bodies, their swollen legs and arthritic hands... their trembling voices soar and their faces smile, their whole beings full of joy - the joy of making music...

They submerge themselves in the wonderful sounds of great Italian opera, and you instantly forget you are watching and hearing old retired people, as the beautiful music transforms everything about them.

Some of them famous diva's, others - humble chorus singers, but all united by their endless love for opera, music, Verdi and Picchini... and one roof.

It is easy and natural to feel sadness when watching old people, but it is not sadness that governs this film... it is joy.

I am so grateful to the people who gave us that rare glimpse of beauty that is hiding now from us in Casa Verdi... about which most of us forget.

For every opera lover... every music lover... this is a must, and without a doubt should take place next to other wonderful "music" films, never mind the fact this is a documentary.
