The 3rd of Deepa Mehta's Elemental Triology concerns an 8 year old Indian girl "widowed" and thus comdemned by her family to live her life in what is euphemistically called an ashram, and her relationships with the other women there. This is overlade with the parallel storyline of Gandhi being released from prison and the changing of India as it struggles to modernise.
Its a very small film in the sense I have used before despite the enormity of the politics.
Intensely so at times.
Like the Ganges it can seem slow moving but it can be deep and that is a lot of water flowing past.
Well worth seeing.
