Why didn't somebody warn me and all the other people in theatre about this nothing-of-a-plot save whining about a troubled homosexual relationship?Yeah, I was bored and going to see Robin Williams is questionable but for him to be playing a gay guy whose young lover just left him was too much. Add in a story of a crazy blindwoman caring for an abused teenager who just happens to have AIDS and you have 90 minutes of yawn after nod.
So, when is something going to happen? Ssssh, maybe in a minute. (Don't hold breath.)
Toni Collette did a great job of looking terrible and being blind but that was hardly enough to keep this three-legged dog on its feet. I can't imagine why Williams even agreed to this unless he wanted to mark "gay guy" off his roles-to-play list. One thing though, Robin did not take one on the lips--apparently he said that was a no go. Artistic control is a bitch.
When they got the final print in the can they should have buried it and spared us the grief of seperated ticket money.
Ex nihilo, nihil fit . . .
