"Vertigo" did not do as well as Hitchcock expected but over time it has come to be considered his masterpiece. Kim Novak is is simply stunning in her dual roles and Hitch gives her one of the most famous
entrance shots, on a par with John Ford's introduction of John Wayne in "Stagecoach". The film was origianally shot in VistaVision and when it was restored in 1996 it was released in 70 MM with DTS sound. Strange then that the current DVD is not anamorphic nor does it have a DTS option. Nonetheless, the picture quality and Dolby Digital sound are top notch. Always a pleasure to watch and, like most films shot in San Francisco, the city becomes a character in the action. It's amazing to see the sparse amount of traffic compared to that of today.
